The Queen City has always been defined as being the face of the “New South,” but now that tagline has got new meaning as Charlotte has been revamping its nightlife and party scene, shedding the image as a “9-to-5” city that shuts its doors after dark. Charlotte is a great city to come and spend Halloween, with revelers dressed as their favorite characters packing bars in spots such as the EpiCenter and NoDa to ring in the scariest holiday of the year. So if you’re celebrating All Hallows' Eve in the Queen City, and still don’t have a costume, here are the best stores in Charlotte to hit up for a great selection and great prices.
1216 Thomas Ave., Charlotte, N.C. 28205 – (980) 224-7321
Charlotte doesn’t have a lot of costume stores, but the Queen City is among royalty when it comes to vintage stores. One of the areas best is Stash Pad, a store in the up-and-coming Commonwealth area that has a great selection of vintage clothing, costumes, and accessories at some of the cheapest prices in the city.
1521 Central Ave., Charlotte, N.C. 28205 – (704) 372-2300
The Commonwealth neighborhood east of Uptown Charlotte has become the city’s hotspot for vintage clothing. What better way to spend an afternoon Halloween shopping than to visit the Buffalo Exchange, a store that sells new and recycled clothing and accessories. The Buffalo Exchange would make for a great spot to get that hard-to-find Halloween costume or finish off your costume with some awesome retro accessories that will be hard to find anywhere else.
4300 Monroe Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28205 – (704) 333-4653
As we mentioned earlier, Charlotte doesn’t have a ton of original costume stores outside of the big chains, but that doesn’t mean that the Queen City is completely devoid of homegrown costume shops. Behold Morris Costumes, a Northeast Charlotte store that has a great selection of costumes that will fit whatever it is that you are aiming for to get that perfect Halloween night look. (704) 333-4653
Spirit Halloween (Matthews)
9905 E. Independence Blvd., Matthews, N.C. 28105 – (704) 841-8686
If you really want a great selection of costumes in the Charlotte area, you are either going to have to head to a vintage store, Morris Costumes, or one of the big-box Halloween stores that pop up all over the area this time of year. The best of these is Spirit Halloween in the eastern suburb of Matthews. This store has everything you need and then some, and the prices are pretty great as well.
