Brooklyn Steel to host The Afghan Whigs

Brooklyn Steel will host critically acclaimed ‘90s alt-rock and garage punk outfit The Afghan Whigs at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 with special guest Har Mar Superstar.

The Afghan Whigs will be performing selections from their most recent studio long-player, In Space, which emerged back in May through Sub Pop Records. The album, which landed at No. 108 on the Billboard 200, is anchored by the singles “Demon In Profile,” “Oriole,” and “Arabian Heights.”

Congregation, The Afghan Whigs’ third LP, celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this year. The album, released in January 1992 through Sub Pop, became a cult favorite thanks to singles “Turn On the Water” and “Conjure Me.”

The legendary band’s first three Sub Pop releases, Up In It, Congregation and the Uptown Avondale EP, were recently released on 180-gram vinyl and are available online and at the band’s merch table.

R&B and retro-soul recording artist Sean Matthew Tillmann, who performs under his stage name Har Mar Superstar, will open the show. The Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter and performance artist released his latest full-length, Best Summer Ever, in April 2016 via Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas' Cult Records. The album includes a cover of Casablanca’s song “Youth Without Love.”

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Har Mar Superstar’s sophomore LP, You Can Feel Me. The album, which is supported by tracks like "Power Lunch" and "Elephant Walk" was released back in October 2002 via Record Collection.

Tickets are available for $40 here at Doors open at 7 p.m. This is a 16 & over event. Brooklyn Steel is located at 319 Frost Street in Brooklyn, N.Y. For more information, visit The Afghan Whigs’ website, Har Mar Superstar’s website, and Brooklyn Steel on Facebook.
