Comedian Demetri Martin was announced today as the host of the 2018 NAMM Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards. The special event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Anaheim, Calif. during the NAMM Show, the gathering of the world’s foremost innovators in music products, pro audio and sound and event technology (occurring over Jan. 25-28).
With over 100,000 attendees expected, the 2018 show will boast the largest campus in its history with communities across the floor, expanded areas and the introduction of a new building (Anaheim Convention Center North) as well as a new education and professional development campus.
The NAMM TEC Awards is one of the most exciting highlights of the three-day music extravaganza. 31 categories of products and projects will be recognized in the areas of Technical and Creative Achievement.
“I am looking forward to hosting the NAMM TEC Awards! As a mediocre, amateur musician who knows very little about professional sound and audio production, I feel uniquely unqualified for the gig - it should be fun,” Martin stated in a press release.
Martin regularly incorporates music into his comedy routine, playing everything from the piano, guitar, harmonica and ukulele to the electronic keytar at his shows. You can pick up tickets here at AXS to see the comic on his "Let’s Get Awkward" tour.
The 33rd Annual NAMM TEC Awards, showcasing the best in professional audio and sound production, will be held in the Hilton Anaheim Hotel’s Pacific Ballroom on Saturday, Jan. 27. You can get your tickets onsite or in advance here for $50 (General Admission), $175 (VIP). The show begins with a VIP-only reception at 6 p.m. followed by the awards ceremony at 7 p.m.
