Drake has earned a new accolade as his new song “God’s Plan” has broken Spotify’s record for the most streams of one song in a single day. Per Pitchfork, a Spotify rep confirmed the new track has overtaken the record previously held by Taylor Swift for “Look What You Made Me Do” and “God’s Plan” now holds the U.S. record as Spotify’s most streamed track in a single day.
Drake celebrated his brand-new musical milestone by acknowledging the accomplishment on Instagram (which you can view below), noting that the song scored over 4,326, 679 streams on Jan. 22. and his fans issued their congratulations with happy comments and over 1 million likes of his post.
Drake recently debuted “God’s Plan” along with another new track called “Diplomatic Immunity” as part of an EP project called Scary Hours. Drake addresses his life journey in “God’s Plan,” calling out the haters and referencing “God’s plan, God’s plan” in the chorus. No formal announcement has been made regarding new music beyond these tracks in the coming new year, but fans are hopeful for more music from the Grammy-winning rapper.
Drake was notably the Most Streamed Artist on Spotify for 2016. However, Ed Sheeran was named the Most Streamed Artist on Spotify for 2017 due to the massive success of his Grammy-nominated third studio album, Divide. Drake didn’t submit More Life for Grammy consideration, though the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart and the Top Album Sales Chart.
