Ed Sheeran continues to rack up accolades into 2018 for his Grammy-winning album ÷ (Divide), even though it was released near the beginning of last year. Per Billboard, Sheeran is the Most Shazamed artist for 2018 thus far. He also scored the Most Shazamed track at the midpoint of the year, with his Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping single “Perfect.”
The massive number of Shazam tags for Sheeran’s self-professed musical love letter to his fiancée Cherry Seaborn helped him clinch his Shazam artist crown. Other artists who round out the Top 5 on the 2018 Most Shazamed Artist list are J Balvin (No. 2), Drake (No. 3), Dua Lipa (No. 4) and Kendrick Lamar (No. 5).
“Even though Ed’s album ÷ is now more than a year old, the songs from it continue to be Shazamed in large numbers,” Julian Marshall, Shazam's global head of content, told Billboard.
The “Shape of You” singer is also the Most Shazamed male artist for 2018 and “Perfect” is also the Most Shazamed song in the pop genre. Dua Lipa is the Most Shazamed female artist to date this year, while Imagine Dragons are the Most Shazamed band and Nicky Jam & J Balvin lead the Most-Shazamed duo pack.
There may not be a musical summit Ed Sheeran hasn’t toppled in the wake of Divide’s extraordinary success. He was the most streamed artist on Spotify for 2017, he’s smashed multiple chart records, including ending last year by setting a UK record with Divide for hitting No. 1 on the UK Albums chart seven times – which is the most No. 1s scored by a male artist in chart history. He also won six Billboard Music Awards earlier this year including Top Artist and Top Male Artist. Plus, Sheeran is currently in the running for several 2018 Teen Choice Awards including Choice Male Artist, Choice Song: Male Artist “Perfect,” and Choice Collaboration for his work with Taylor Swift and Future on “End Game.”
