Eric Church announces Holdin' My Own Tour 2017 dates

Country superstar Eric Church made news during a Facebook Live chat Tuesday night when he revealed his 60-city 2017 Holdin' My Own Tour. The trek will be unique in that Church will perform two sets each night without an opening act.

Named after one of the tracks on Church's latest chart-topping album Mr. Misunderstood, the tour commences on January 13 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Along the way, the singer will hit up huge arenas like Brooklyn's Barclays Center, Boston's TD Garden, Toronto's Air Canada Centre, and the Staples Center in L.A. The tour wraps up with a pair of shows at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on May 26-27.

Members of Church's fan club will have presale access from now through August 23. Church's team will be working vigilantly to keep an eye out for ticket resellers, and all tickets ordered by scalpers or sold on secondary markets will be canceled. Tickets will not be released to purchasers until just days before the concert, giving scalpers less time to try to resell them.

In a press release, Church said, “The way Mr. Misunderstood came together mandated we release it as a surprise, straight to our fans, as it was important for me to deliver the music the same way the creativity hit me — directly and swiftly. What I didn’t anticipate is that it left me scratching my head a little as this year was supposed to be spent writing. What this year’s open schedule did afford us was time to think through the way the fans experience our music live, and it was important to us that we find a way to stick to these same principles when it came to approaching our shows, down to the way they go on sale.”

Church's decision to eschew opening acts and perform two sets follows in the footsteps of acts like the Dave Matthews Band, who used the same tactic at recent shows. Superstars like U2 and Bruce Springsteen have also toured without openers in recent years to try to give their fans maximum value.

Known for smash hits like “Springsteen,” “The Outsiders,” and “Give Me Back My Hometown,” Church has used his hard-rocking country style to differentiate himself from the bro-country trend and become one of the most critically acclaimed performers in the genre. His last single, “Record Year,” hit No. 1 on the country airplay chart.
