What's better than one singer-songwriter with fresh music? Two singer-songwriters with fresh music, sharing the stage. Gabe Dixon and David Ryan Harris have joined forces for a new fall tour called fittingly "Twobadours On The Run" and will be hitting the road as a double act through Oct. 7.
Dixon struck out as an independent solo artist this April when he dropped his sophomore album Turns To Gold through his own label, Rolling Ball Records. Both as a solo artist and with his Gabe Dixon Band, you've heard him featured on a number of television shows including NBC's "Last Call With Carson Daly" and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live." But even if you've seen him before, he's gone in a new and invigorating direction with this latest record that represents some of his best work, which only lends more energy to this tour. You can read our interview with Dixon about Turns To Gold here.
Like Dixon, Harris is a former band member who embarked upon an individual career, but he's had more time to carve out his own space. His first solo album, the self-titled David Ryan Harris, came out in 1997 and he's been full speed ahead ever since. Fourth record Lightyears came out last fall and he's so productive that he's announced that his sixth album is scheduled for release later this month. It's easy to see why he and Dixon have decided to tour together; they've both experienced a similar journey and both have the same commitment to creating meaningful but uncomplicated music that everyone can enjoy.
"Twobadours On The Run" gives audiences a chance to experience not one but two undervalued artists in the same evening. Co-headlining tours are great because of that additional value - even more talent on the same ticket - but this one is even more remarkable because the two performers genuinely match together. This isn't a double act simply to have one; it's one that feels like it's been a long time coming and that should keep going for a long time after. With plenty of great music to put on the set list and two musicians who are getting better as they go, perhaps this tour could develop into an annual pursuit. It's certainly worthy of being one.
