To say that Cage the Elephant has earned a reputation for religiously putting on sweaty, rowdy and all around awesome rock shows would be an understatement and since the group released their 2015 album, Tell Me I'm Pretty, their stage show has only gotten that much more magnetic. Chicago fans will have the opportunity to see the Grammy-nominated musicians tear-up the stage at UIC Pavilion when Matt Shultz and company play the Windy City on June 7.
With four studio albums now under their belt, Cage the Elephant create setlists that are like sweet trips down memory lane for fans of their early work, while each live rendition gives a glimpse into the intriguing future of the band's sound. Though still young in rock years, their style is evolving into a timeless vibe that picks up where The Kinks left off.
“Mess Around,” the lead single off Tell Me I'm Pretty, went straight up to No. 1 on the alternative charts, giving Cage the Elephant their sixth stint in the top spot. This statistic puts them in illustrious company as only six other bands – Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, Green Day, R.E.M. and U2 – have also had more than five No. 1 hits on the alternative charts.
The video for Cage the Elephant's most recent single, “Trouble,” finds Shultz leading the band in a sunset desert performance and leading the shoot as the director of the clip. His whisper-like singing and satisfying falsetto draw listeners in before he howls of strife in the powerful chorus.
Portugal. The Man will be on hand to warm up the stage for Cage the Elephant's Chicago show. Later this summer, Cage the Elephant will be making stops in Minneapolis, Portland and Las Vegas, where they will be playing The joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The tour will reach its epic conclusion with a performance at the Gila River Arena in Phoenix, Arizona on June 26.
Cage the Elephant has a rich history with Chicago. They recorded a live album, Live from The Vic in Chicago, back in 2011 and they have destroyed Lollapalooza on numerous occasions, most notably during their rain-soaked set in 2014.
