Get to know a Rock on the Range band: Ministry

Ministry is an industrial metal band that was started in the 1980s, and will be performing at the Rock on the Range 2015 festival in Columbus, Ohio. The heavy industrial band will be performing at rock festival on Saturday May17, 2015.

The band was started by lead singer Al Jourgensen in Chicago, Illinois, in 1981. Originally, the band was a new wave band with lots of synthpop to its style of music. It was later in the late 1980s, when grunge started kicking in the music scene, which Jourgensen’s band decided to go industrial metal, sometimes reaching levels of thrash metal.

Despite being in the music scene, the band was very underground until their album Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs released 1992. It was this album that got made them big in the rock scene during the early 90s. The single that made it happen for this album was “Jesus Built My Hotrod.”

The album Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs, also known as ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ, reached No. 27 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was the prequel to what was to come with their next album Filth Pig which charted at No. 19, their most successful album yet. It also hit No. 9 on the ARIA Charts from Australia.

Ministry also went through many members throughout the years. Still, Al Jourgensen leads the way, but the 1990s were pretty much the best his band has done. Jourgensen ended the band in 2008 and swore that a reunion would never be. In 2011, the band decided to play and released an album a year later called Relapse.

Long time guitarist Mike Scaccia passed away in 2012 who helped Jourgensen establish the heavy industrial sound that the band became to be known for. Despite Scaccia’s death, the band decided to keep touring and later, in 2013, released another album called From Beer to Eternity.

Ministry is a classic industrial band that started out as a new wave synthpop. Their heavy repetitious guitar riffs that give is that heave industrial feel to their music, should be blaring at the Rock for Rage 2015 festival just fine. They are a classic band not to be missed!
