As the largest pure rock festival in the nation approaches, fans are preparing their schedules of bands to see at Rock on the Range this weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Here are five young bands that are worth checking out.
On Friday alone, there are three bands performing that are newish to the music market and having been gaining serious notoriety with their growing legions of fans. Islander, We Are Harlot, and Young Guns are those such bands.
We Are Harlot, who have just released their self-titled debut album features former vocalist of Asking Alexandria, Danny Worsnop. They are currently on a small U.S. tour with Papa Roach as well as their headlining dates including several festival stops this month. The Road Runner Records band also have announced several European dates in the early part of the Summer.
Islander—Victory Records' pride and joy—have been hitting the airwaves hard and receiving the recognition they undoubtedly deserve. When vocalist Mikey Carvajal is not crowd surfing, he is often joined by singers such as Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach and Sonny Sandoval from P.O.D on stage. Their hit single is “Coconut Dracula” which is still in rotation on radio and is from their debut album “Violence and Destruction” available in stores.
Finally, the UK-based Young Guns, who have released two albums since 2010 (All Our Kings Are Dead and Bones), and reached number 1 on the Billboard Active Rock charts in May 2013. Their third highly anticipated album Ones and Zeros is due in June 2015. They were last in the U.S. at the beginning of 2014 featured on the 2014 Shipwrecked Cruise and after Rock on the Range continue through the U.S. with several tour dates including a few other festivals.
New Zealand’s Like a Storm has been causing raising hell while out supporting their newest album Awaken the Fire and have recently come off a tour with Hellyeah and continuing on the road with Steel Panther around the East Coast and MidWest. Following their stop at Rock on the Range they are heading to Rocklahoma and then a tour in Europe including the Download Festival. They have also just released their latest album Awaken The Fire, which is available in stores now.
Finally, a band based not too far from Columbus, Ohio are Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s From Ashes to New. This very young group who were just signed with Better Noise Records (under Eleven Seven Music Group) are ready to be formally introduced to the world, and ROTR is the perfect place. They recently completed their first national tour run with the famous Hollywood Undead (who are also performing at Rock on the Range); they have been gaining new fans throughout the U.S. at a drastic rate. With a new four track EP titled Downfall, listeners can anticipate hearing, “…the twin fulcrums of Matt Brandyberry’s relentless, twisting verses and Chris Musser’s razor-edged vocals, the sextet are already dealing with the sort of arena-ready anthems that will make you want to kick your 9-5 into the middle of next week.”
Rock on the Range is not just a place to check out your favorite headliners; it is a magnificent venue and platform ripe for introducing you to your next beloved band.
