Last year, Gramatik came to Red Rocks and played a sold out show during a snowstorm and the concert was infamously named "Blizzmatik." There are even shirts on Gramatik's website that are available for purchase that say, "I Survived Blizzmatik." However, this year, the weather was completely opposite at Gramatik's annual Red Rocks show on Friday. The Slovenian DJ and producer, Denis Jašarevic, made it up to his fans this year, with surprise guests and an all around amazing production.
Hippie Sabotage played an hour-long set to warm the crowd up before Gramatik took the stage around 9:30 p.m. The electronic duo had a ton of energy, and the front man even spent time in the crowd with his fans, while of course, smoking a blunt.
Shortly after Hippie Sabotage's set, Gramatik finally took the stage. His live shows are always something special, and with the release of his new album this year, Epigram, Colorado was ready to hear a brand new set.
Not only are Gramatik's concerts all about the amazing music he produces, but his light show is astonishing as well. Each song has a different theme—from all blue lights, to all green, from white lasers to rainbow strobes. Each song is different from one another, as well as the visuals.
For the last 30 minutes of his set, Gramatik announced to the crowd that he had a couple surprise guests. Joining him on stage was electronic-duo Big Gigantic and DJ and producer, GRiZ. The three played under their collaboration name, Big Grizmatik, which is a rare thing to see. The only other performance they have scheduled for this summer is at Summer Camp in Chillicothe, IL. Playing for about a half an hour, the crowd was more hyped than ever. Among the three of them, the mixture of funk, electronic and hip-hop is something that isn't found anywhere else in the electronic music scene.
Not only did Gramatik make it up to the people of Colorado who couldn't make it to "Blizzmatik" or had to leave early due to the weather situation, but he ultimately outdid himself by showing everyone how united the music industry is and bringing out some of the biggest names in the scene.
