Hangout Fest didn’t let some minor hiccups get in the way of throwing the three-day seaside party of fans’ dreams. In spite of headliner Calvin Harris’ cancellation, the show went on, and in a big way. Last night (May 21), alt heavyweights Cage the Elephant brought electricity and stamina to their hit-filled set.

The four-piece band may have originated in Kentucky, but their southern roots were nowhere to be found at the Gulf Shores, Ala. performance. The guys backed up their anthemic melodies with pure power and noise.

We only heard one song off Cage the Elephant's latest release Tell Me I’m Pretty (they opted for lead single “Mess Around” over current single “Trouble”). Instead, they ensured fans could sing along to every word by focussing on material from 2013’s Melophobia, like cinematic songs “Cigarette Daydreams,” Come a Little Closer,” and, of course, smash hit “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked.”

Check out the slideshow of Cage the Elephant’s performance by photographer Alan Graham above. And for more coverage of Hangout Festival, keep it it here on AXS.com.
