One of the best things about metalcore/alternative metal's In This Moment is that, as a whole, they kind of mess with your head...
Lead by the gorgeous Maria Brink who could easily pass for an Hollywood starlet or top model - then you hear her sing and begin to quiver. Not only is she nice to look at but she can kick your butt with her lungs and vocal chords alone. But as delightfully scary as In This Moment can be with their themes, imagery, and sheer raw, metal horsepower - they're a band to be celebrated, not feared.
With their highly anticipated fifth studio album in the works, In This Moment has unleashed some pretty exciting announcements in the last few days...said album, Black Widow, will be released on Nov. 18. Black Widow is the follow-up to 2012's massively popular Blood which debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at #15, and has thus far sold over 227,000 copies.
“‘Black Widow’ is definitely the darker part of me," explained lead vocalist and In This Moment co-founder, Maria Brink, "This album is finding the weakness inside and turning it into strength. It’s about being reborn, setting yourself free and realizing the balance in everything — the dark and the light. I am so ready and excited for the launch of this album. I think people will embrace its diversity and hearing different sides of us that they haven’t experienced yet.”
Guitarist Chris Howorth added: “This was by far the most challenging, exciting and rewarding experience we've ever had making a record. We threw out the rule-book and tried to create something fearless, constantly pushing ourselves to make an album unlike anyone has heard before. Fans, get ready for this ride — everything is going to the next level.”
Along with this announcement was the release of the first single off the new album entitled "Sick Like Me." Having just popped out into the world on Sept. 9, the song debuted at #3 on the iTunes Rock Chart in its first day. A video for the song has also been released, and if this is any indication of what Black Widow is going to sound and feel like as a whole - fans will not be disappointed.
And speaking of the fans - starting late in October, In This Moment will be heading out on their "Black Widow Tour," kicked off at Knotfest and then snaking all over the U.S. through mid-December. Stay tuned for more information and, hopefully, the announcement of more tour dates to hit some additional markets.
