Join The Porch Writers’ Collective on February 6, 2016 for their second annual fundraiser, “Kinship: An Evening with Mary Karr and Rodney Crowell,” as Nashville’s only independent center for writing hosts an unforgettable evening of story and song with bestselling memoirist and songwriter Mary Karr, and Grammy-winning musician and memoirist Rodney Crowell. Hosted at Green Door Gourmet, the evening will kick off with a Meet and Greet reception for VIP ticket-holders with Karr and Crowell at 6:30 PM, with wine, beer, a signature cocktail, and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Doors open for general admission at 8:00 PM.
Mary Karr is a bestselling memoirist, award-winning poet, songwriter, and author of "The Liars’ Club", "Cherry", and "Lit". This fall she released "The Art of Memoir", sealing her place in the canon of masterful American memoirists. In 2012, Vangard Records released "Kin: Songs by Rodney Crowell and Mary Karr". Karr wrote the lyrics and Crowell set them to music. "Kin" was Karr's first foray into songwriting. Crowell performed four tracks on the album; one as a duet with Kris Kristofferson. A variety of other artists recorded the other songs on the album, including Norah Jones, Vince Gill, Lucinda Williams, Lee Ann Womack, Rosanne Cash, Kris Kristofferson and Emmylou Harris
Rodney Crowell is a multi-Grammy winner, a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and recipient of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting from the Americana Music Association. He had hit singles with I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried and After All This Time. As a songwriter, his songs have been covered and performed by Van Morrison, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Etta James, George Strait, Tim McGraw and more. He is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir "Chinaberry Sidewalks". Crowell's memoir focused primarily on his relationship with his parents’ marriage and his own early years growing up in Houston, Texas.
This duo is poised to offer Nashville another magical night of world-class literature and music, all in support of Nashville’s one-and-only center for writing. VIP tickets are $150, ground floor tickets are $75, and balcony tickets are $50. Tickets are currently on sale here.
