Bio: Xscape

Xscape exploded onto the music scene in the 90’s, and emerged as one of the most prolific female R&B groups of all time. Mid-tempo melodies traversed them to the top of the charts, securing 3 platinum albums, and selling over ten million albums worldwide. Their talent was unmatched and their success was unstoppable.

Hailing from College Park, GA, sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott, Kandi Burruss, and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, joined forces when they met at a performing arts high school. The group was discovered in Atlanta by Jermaine Dupri, who signed them to his up-and-coming label, So So Def.

Their debut album, Hummin' Comin' At 'Cha (1993), was a critical and commercial success. The platinum album launched two top 10 singles, "Just Kickin' It", and "Understanding", which both became platinum number-one hits. Although criticized at times for their street image, Xscape changed the face of R&B. Their powerful vocals created an incomparable sound, and their infectious ballads appealed to a wide audience.

Two additional platinum albums later, growing personal and professional issues created tension amongst the group and they split. But the disbandment did not limit individual success for these talented vocalists. Separately, the ladies embarked on paths that would lead them to writing Grammy award winning hit songs, acting, starting families, and even becoming TV  stars.

With their 25th year anniversary approaching, R&B quartet Xscape has reunited to commemorate this occasion with a rerelease of their debut album, a documentary capturing their journey toward a momentous group performance in almost 2 decades, an electrifying tour, and a provocative film that will reveal their untold story from teens in College Park to industry icons.

LATOCHA SCOTT
After Xscape, LaTocha pursued a solo career and ventured into songwriting and producing. She lent vocals to the hit “Liar Liar” for The Best Man soundtrack, wrote and produced three songs for NFL Jams an album released by the NFL, and collaborated on a duet with artist J-Shin for the single “One Night Stand.” She also co-wrote and performed on Trick Daddy’s “Thug Holiday” which earned the rapper his first certified gold single. LaTocha’s went on to write and produce the song “I’m Right Here” for Whitney Houston, and Tamar Braxton’s first hit single “If You Don’t Wanna Love Me.” She made her film debut in the romantic comedy “Fair Game” alongside actress Gina Torres. In 2013, LaTocha starred in the second season of reality show R&B Divas: Atlanta.

TAMIKA SCOTT
Tamika honed her talent as an actress. She starred in Donald Gray's musical stage plays "Man Of My Dreams" and "A Good Man Is Hard To Find," and in BET's "Strangers In My House" alongside Vivica Fox, Clifton Powell, and Carl Payne. As a songwriter, she wrote and produced the cover song on Tyler Perry's, "Why Did I Get Married" soundtrack. She went on to pen and produce four songs for the soundtrack of Perry's "Daddy's Little Girls." Perry handpicked the hit, "Greatest Gift," for the soundtrack, which has been performed by heavy hitters like Grammy winner Yolanda Adams. Tamika has written hits for Jaheim, Musiq Soulchild, Anthony Hamilton, Letoya Luckett, Tamela Mann, and Yolanda Adams. She also wrote a song for Jim Carey's "The Mask" soundtrack, and wrote and produced for the “Hard Ball” soundtrack starring Keanu Reeves. Tamika challenged herself further by penning two books, and four screenplays. She’s currently working on her 11-year old daughter's pilot sitcom "Taniyah's World."
KANDI BURRUSS
Kandi found success in songwriting and production. In 1999, she teamed up with groupmate Tameka "Tiny" Cottle to co-write the number one hit "No Scrubs" for TLC, which garnered them a Grammy for “Best Song of the Year”. That same year, she wrote “Bills, Bills, Bills” for Destiny’s Child, and won ASCAP Songwriter of the Year. She went on to work with artists such as Pink, co writing her debut single “There You Go, along with, Mariah Carey, Faith Evans, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, 'N Sync, and Boyz II Men. Kandi also released 2 solo albums, Hey Kandi (2000) and Kandi Koated (2010). In 2009, she joined the reality show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Her writing skills are also still on point, she co-wrote the song “Shape Of You” for Ed Sheeran which hit #1 on The Billboard Hot 100 in January. In addition to her success in the music industry, Kandi is also thriving in business with her own companies, Bedroom Kandi – a line of adult toys, TAGS Boutique – luxury women’s apparel, and other ventures.

Tiny and former bandmate Kandi Burruss co-wrote the hit “No Scrubs” for TLC, the song scored them a Grammy Award for “Best Song of the Year.” Venturing into television production, Tiny held dual roles as the star and executive producer of the reality show Tiny and Toya, which followed her friendship with Antonia "Toya" Johnson Carter, the ex-wife of rap artist Lil’ Wayne. Soon later, Tiny and husband T.I., executive produced and starred in the reality series T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle. Tiny continues to build her empire, with Pretty Hustle a music production company, Tiny Tequila, a baby line of products called Major Baby, and a newly inked deal with TelePictures for a daytime television show. And with parts in the films “Meet The Blacks” and “Hawaii 5-0”, Tiny is quickly establishing herself as an actress.
