'Westworld' season two trailer features eerie cover of Nirvana's 'Heart-Shaped Box'

On March 29, HBO released a new trailer for the second season of its cerebral sci-fi drama “Westworld” and it was scored with a very interesting cover song.

The song is an instrumental cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box,” a track that was created by “Westworld” composer Ramin Djawadi. Already one of the most harrowing songs in the legendary grunge bands oeuvre, Djawadi retains the track’s intensity while also giving it a new elegiac undertone that suits the apocalyptical imagery shown in the trailer.

In addition to the trailer, HBO has also a full-length version of the cover which runs about a minute and a half shorter than the original. The cover will be available for purchase on March 30. During “Westworld’s” first season, Djawadi composed memorable covers of songs by Radiohead, Soundgarden and Amy Winehouse. Additionally, a Super Bowl ad for “Westworld’s” second season featured instrumental covers of Kanye West’s “Runaway.”

Later this spring, Djawadi will be heading out on tour for a concert series that will feature music he has composed for HBO’s other hugely popular genre show, “Game of Thrones.”

“Westworld” season two premieres on HBO April 22.
