With the NBA releasing the schedule for the upcoming season, LA Clippers fans can begin to look forward to what should be a promising year at Staples Center.
As the Clippers hope to improve upon last year’s 42-40 campaign, one of the key members of the staff could be trainer Jasen Powell. Powell is entering his 14th season as the team’s athletic trainer.
Powell has extensive experience in the state of California, where he lettered in three sports and graduated from Cal Poly Pomona. A distinguished athlete in his own right, Powell interned with the Atlanta Falcons before taking a job with the San Francisco 49ers. He left San Francisco to take a job with the Clippers, where he has worked ever since.
According to the NBA, Powell is currently the Western Conference representative for the NBATA and serves on the advisory board as an active member for "Kids Powered by Fitness.”
The Clippers were plagued with a host of injuries in 2017-18, which made Powell work overtime. Blake Griffin notably returned well before his estimated comeback date from a knee injury. Patrick Beverley has followed a similar path and will be good to go for the 2018-19 season.
With the rigors of a long NBA season, the athletic trainer is a key member of any staff, and Doc Rivers has access to a good one. The Clippers are hoping they’ll need less of his services as the team remains healthy.
