The Los Angeles Kings will be hosting the surging Calgary Flames at the Staples Center on April 1. In celebration of April Fool's Day, the Kings will be offering discounts to members of the American military and students.
The Kings are coming off one of their most impressive wins of the 2018-19 National Hockey League regular season. On March 21, they upset the San Jose Sharks 4-2 at the Staples Center. Heading into the game, the Kings had 36 fewer points than the Sharks this season. Three Kings had a multi-point game as Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar each had one goal and one assist for two points and Alex Iafallo had two assists.
The Kings have a record of 26 wins, 39 regulation losses and eight losses in extra time for 60 points. The Flames have a record of 46 wins, 21 regulation losses and seven losses in extra time for 99 points. Currently the Flames are tied with the Boston Bruins for the second best record in the National Hockey League. Only the Tampa Bay Lightning at 120 points have more points than Boston and Calgary.
The Kings leading scorer is Kopitar, who has 21 goals and 32 assists for 53 points. The Flames leading scorer is Johnny Gaudreau, who has 35 goals and 57 assists for 92 points.
In Kings transaction news, the Kings signed center Akil Thomas on March 16. Thomas has had a sensational season with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League. He currently leads the IceDogs with 64 assists, and is tied for the team lead in points with Ben Jones at 102 points.
The Kings are also reporting that local actor Colin Hanks will be part of the FOX Sports broadcast for their game against the Anaheim Ducks on March 23. Colin Hanks is the son of legendary actor Tom Hanks, however Colin himself has generated success as an actor himself. In 2014, he was nominated for best supporting actor at the Golden Globe Awards for his role as Officer Gus Grimly on the FX television show "Fargo".
