The Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League will be celebrating Bailey's birthday and have a stick up for animals night on March 2 when they host the Chicago Blackhawks at Staples Center. Bailey, the Kings mascot, named after the former Kings scout Garnet Bailey, will be celebrating his 12th birthday. To celebrate Bailey's birthday, fans will receive a limited edition collectible art print of Bailey. Also during the game, Kings fans will be able to bid on unique pet bowls designed by Kings players and coaches. The proceeds will go to the Society of Prevention and Cruelty to Animals in Los Angeles.

The Kings will be battling a Blackhawks team that is playing some excellent hockey at the moment. Chicago has a record of eight wins and two losses in their last 10 games, and are only one point back of the Minnesota Wild for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Blackhawks leading scorer is Patrick Kane, who is second in the NHL in goals with 38 (five goals back of Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals) and second in the NHL in points with 92 (eight points back of Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning). The Kings leading scorer is Anze Kopitar, who has 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points.

On Feb. 21, the Kings made a trade with the Washington Capitals. They dealt left winger Carl Hagelin to Washington for a third-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals will get the sixth-round draft pick if Hagelin plays an undisclosed amount of games in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and the Capitals reach the Eastern Conference Finals. Hagelin has two goals and six assists for eight points in 38 games this season with the Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Finally, in Kings promotional news, fans have an opportunity to enter a draw and win four Kings tickets to their game against the Vegas Golden Knights on April 6, four season passes to the Knott's Berry Farm and Kings merchandise. In 2019, Knott's Berry Farm will have a special PEANUTS celebration as they honor Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Those interested in entering the draw must do so by Feb. 28.
