2018-19 LA Kings promotional night: Oct. 7 game against Red Wings features magnet schedule giveaway

The Los Angeles Kings will have their first game against an opponent from the Eastern Conference during the 2018-19 National Hockey League regular season when they host the Detroit Red Wings at the Staples Center on Sun., Oct. 7. This will be the second game in three nights for the Kings after playing their 2018-19 NHL regular season home opener on Oct. 5 against the San Jose Sharks.

Kings fans will receive a magnet schedule when attending the game. The magnet schedule is presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The Kings are also offering fans two different types of packages for the game against the Red Wings. In the Sunday Funday package, Kings fans get a ticket, t-shirt, hot dog, domestic beer, and a ticket to Skyspace LA. In the Ontario Reign ticket pack, fans receive a co-branded Kings and Reign t-shirt

One could argue that the Red Wings are in a period of transition for the first time in a quarter of a century. The Red Wings have missed the playoffs the last two seasons. Prior to 2016-17, the last time Detroit missed the playoffs was 1989-90.

This will be the Red Wings second game of their 2018-19 NHL regular season. Their first game is Oct. 4 when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Red Wings head into the season with some injury woes. They have placed defensemen Nikloas Kronwall and Jonathan Ericsson on the injury reserve. Ericsson has an upper-body injury, while Kronwall's injury is undisclosed.

In the offseason, the biggest news surrounding the Red Wings was the fact that their captain Henrik Zetterberg, retired on Sept. 14 because of a back injury. He was 37 years old.

With the Red Wings in a period of rebuilding, they will be counting on forwards Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha and Gustav Nyquist. Larkin led the Red Wings in 2017-18 with 47 assists and 63 points, while Mantha led Detroit with 24 goals.
