With the NBA releasing the schedule for the upcoming season, Los Angeles Lakers fans can begin to look forward to what should be a promising year at Staples Center.
While the Lakers’ roster will be fascinating to monitor, one man is ultimately responsible for overseeing it. Head coach Luke Walton will have his hands full in 2018-19, although there will be no lack of talent at his disposal. The challenge for Walton will be finding combinations that work in what looks like a difficult Western Conference.
This year, Walton receives the services of LeBron James, which is a gift and a challenge. Sometimes it is hard to get on the same page as legendary players. However, if Walton finds the right rapport with LeBron, the Lakers should flourish.
It is often forgotten, as well, that Walton is quite a coach. That fact gets lost since the Lakers have been rebuilding, but with a roster complete with NBA experience, the sky should be the limit for a roster that properly blends skilled veterans and promising youngsters. When Walton filled in for Steve Kerr during the 2016 season, the Golden State Warriors put together a 39-4 record.
While Walton will not start his season with a 90.6 winning percentage, he has proven that he can excel with top-level talent. Having LeBron and Rajon Rondo should help, as they function as coaches on the floor. The key for Walton will be to get on the same page with all of his players, many of whom are new to his system.
