The Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League will celebrate the birthday of their mascot, Kingston, on Jan. 21 when they host the San Diego Gulls at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Note the start time is 3 p.m. and the date is the same as when the United States will be celebrating Martin Luther King Day.

Kingston, who is a snow leopard, was originally the mascot of the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings later changed mascots and Kingston would join the Reign in 2015. Kingston's birthday is brought to you by Dave & Buster's restaurant in Ontario. After the game, Reign fans will be able to skate on the ice with a purchase of a family pack.

The Reign currently have a record of 10 wins, 16 losses, three overtime losses and two shootout losses for 25 points. Their last win came on Dec. 22 in a very exciting 7-6 shootout win over the Gulls in Ontario. Philippe Maillet led the Reign with three goals and one assist for four points. Other Reign players with a multi-point game were Kale Clague, who notched three assists, and Matt Roy, who had one goal and one assist for two points. Sheldon Rempal would score for the Reign in the shootout.

The Gulls have a record of 17 wins, 11 regulation losses, one overtime loss and three shootout losses for 38 points. Their leading scorer is Troy Terry, who has 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points. The Reign leading scorers are Matt Moulson and Rempal, who each have 24 points. Moulson has nine goals and 15 assists and Rempal has eight goals and 16 assists.

In Reign transaction news, the Kings sent down center Michael Amadio to the Reign on Dec. 30. In 28 games with the Kings, Amadio has two goals and two assists for four points in 28 games with the Kings and one goal and four assists for five points in six games with the Reign.

Meanwhile, two players have been selected to represent the Reign at the 2019 American Hockey League All-Star Classic in Springfield, MA on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28. They are Rempal and defenseman Sean Walker. Rempal has eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 24 games with the Reign and Walker has six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 20 games with the Reign.
