Jon "Bones" Jones fights Anthony Smith for light heavyweight gold on March 2 in Las Vegas, as part of the historic UFC 235 pay-per-view spectacular at T-Mobile Arena. Tickets for the event are on sale right here on AXS. In the co-main, Tyron Woodley meets Kamaru Usman for the welterweight championship of the world. With UFC 235 shaping up to be one of the most stacked cards in MMA history, it's time to look back at Jones' top five greatest performances inside the Octagon. Here they are:
5. "Shogun" Rua, March 2011
To be a legend, you have to beat a legend. With that in mind, Jones stepped up to the plate at UFC 128 to take on one of the all-time greats -- Brazilian striker "Shogun" Rua. Heading into the fight, most fans thought Jones was biting off more than he could chew with a scrap opposite Rua. Amazingly, Jones battered the legend with a flurry of strikes, ultimately finishing with a barrage of punches and knees in the third round. The win earned Jones the UFC's light heavyweight title.
4. "Rampage" Jackson, September 2011
This "Fight of the Night" performance was a career highlight for Jones because it marked his first successful UFC title defense. He dominated from start to finish, ending Jackson's night early with a fourth-round stoppage via rear-naked choke.
3. Daniel Cormier, January 2015
Jones' long-running feud with Cormier is the stuff of legends. After multiple verbal jabs on social media and in press conferences, the men got to settle their differences inside the cage at UFC 182. Shockingly, Jones out-wrestled Cormier and imposed his will in the stand-up department. The bout, which earned both men a "Fight of the Night" bonus, extended Jones' streak of light heavyweight title defenses to a record-breaking tally of eight.
2. Lyoto Machida, December 2011
The visual of Machida getting choked out by Jones -- and crumpling up into a heap onto the canvas -- was one of the most shocking moments in UFC history. Jones scored the finish via standing guillotine choke, in the second round of their world title fight.
1. Alexander Gustafsson, September 2013
This is the first UFC fight where Jones actually looked human. Fans loved this one because "Bones" needed to dig down deep, bite hard on his mouthpiece and show serious heart, in order to retain his title. After five rounds of action, Jones won the fight via judges' decision.
