Riot Games added another hit song to its list after the newest League of Legends song “Awaken” landed a spot on the YouTube trending page shortly after its release. Since the game's creation in 2009, Riot Games has released music and short cinematics to celebrate ranked climbs and world championships, and many of the songs have caught the attention of non-players across the globe.
Here are five of the best League of Legends songs released over the years.
5. “Legends Never Die” – 2017
In 2017, Riot Games enlisted the help of American pop rock band Against the Current to promote the League of Legends World Championship. The song's lyrics embody the struggle of an upwards climb, capturing both the stories of the game’s playable champions and those of victorious professional players who overcame the odds to take home the Summoner's Cup. With Christina "Chrissy" Costanza’s strong vocals, “Legends Never Die” crafts an epic battle song worthy of replay to this day.
4. “Rise” – 2018
To build hype for the 2018 World Championship, Riot Games created “Rise” featuring The Glitch Mob, Mako, and The Word Alive. The song’s music video animates former professional player Kang “Ambition” Chan-yong on his journey to win the 2017 League of Legends World Championship. Upon its release, “Rise” quickly found its way to the top of the trending list on YouTube, and the video currently holds just short of 100 million views.
3. “Ignite” – 2016
Created in collaboration with the infamous DJ Zedd, “Ignite” set the pace for the 2016 League of Legends World Championship. The music video illustrates the feats of teams and professional players from previous years in their fight for the Summoner’s Cup. As the first of the World Championship songs to introduce a dubstep sound to the international stage, “Ignite” remains many fans’ favorite League of Legends song ever created.
2. “Get Jinxed” – 2013
Released two days before the champion’s official release date, “Get Jinxed” served as a perfect teaser for Jinx, League of Legends’ gun maniac. With vocals from Agnete Kjølsrud of Djerv, the song embodies Jinx’s love for destruction with an industrial punk sound, and the video animates the machine gun criminal as she sets off to wreak havoc on the fictional city of Piltover.
1. “POP/STARS” – 2018
During the 2018 World Championship, Riot Games introduced the fictional pop group K/DA to the League of Legends community with the release of “POP/STARS.” Riot Games created the song in collaboration with vocalists Jaira Burns, Madison Beer, and Cho Mi-yeon and Jeon So-yeon of (G)I-DLE, and the song immediately became a trending hit across both the K-Pop and League of Legends communities.
