Metal music festival Northern Invasion is heading out for their 2018 event this year at the Somerset Amphitheater in Wisconsin in May and they have a monster lineup scheduled (see entire lineup here). The event not only sees the top metal acts in the land playing live in concert but some legendary grunge acts are on hand as well. The event takes place from May 12-13 and tickets are on sale now.
With a ton of bands playing the two-day event, here is a look at five can't miss acts playing at the Northern Invasion 2018 Festival.
A running joke every year is whether or not Tool will release a new album before just about every other band in the world beats them to it. This year, the rumors indicate that Tool will finally release their fifth studio album, 12 years since the release of their fourth and 25 years since their debut album. However, Tool has been touring more recently and will headline the Northern Invasion Festival in 2018.
Maynard James Keenan, the lead singer of Tool, will pull double-duty this year at the Northern Invasion Festival. Not only is Tool playing live in concert at the event, but Keenan's side band A Perfect Circle will perform there as well. While A Perfect Circle has gone 14 years without new music, much like Tool, Keenan and the band still tour and will give another look at the versatile vocalist at this festival.
Unlike Tool, Avenged Sevenfold has remained pretty consistent in their musical releases over the years. They have seven studio albums since their debut in 2001. Their most recent release came in 2016, and while it was not as successful as their previous two, which both hit number one on the U.S. charts, it still reached fourth and proved fans still loved the thrash metal rockers.
It isn't just heavy metal bands playing the Northern Invasion Festival in 2018. One of the headliners is one of the top grunge bands of the '90s. Alice in Chains will take the stage in Wisconsin. The band has big plans in 2018, working on their sixth studio album, five years since releasing The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here This isn't the only festival appearance for the band in May, as they will play Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio as well.
Alice in Chains isn't the only grunge legends playing the Northern Invasion Festival in 2018. The Stone Temple Pilots are coming as well. The band released their first single with new lead singer Jeff Gutt in November 2017 and have said they will release a brand-new album in 2018. This is a huge year for the band as they set out to introduce old fans to their new sound.
