As the fourth installment of One Love Cali Reggae Fest is about to hit the Queen Mary Events Park in Long Beach, California, concertgoers are already planning how they want to navigate this year’s adventure. From Feb. 8-10, 2019, the spacious grounds (offering a beautiful view of the downtown city skyline) will welcome an incredible lineup featuring some of the genre’s most beloved artists. This event has seen massive expansion over the past few years, making it one of the "must-experience" festivals of the season.

Here are 5 reasons to attend the 2019 One Love Cali Reggae Fest.

5. The music

Sublime with Rome, Slightly Stoopid, Dirty Heads, Matisyahu, Pepper, Rebelution, and Long Beach Dub Allstars are just a few of the acts on the bill. While reggae fans will undoubtedly get their fix, One Love Cali Fest also incorporates other genres into the mix – including ska punk and R&B. In years past, it has become an eclectic showcase of talent, with each artist embodying that same uplifting energy. It’s also become a staple for people who love these artists in particular. A number of them are returning after playing multiple years at this festival.

4. The food

Food has become a high point at most music festivals. One Love Cali Reggae Fest always has an assortment of options to choose from. Places such as Afters (home of the famous Milky Bun), was a big hit with concertgoers last year. While the lines can be long – we all know how that gets when you’re in between sets, counting down the minutes until your favorite artist takes the stage – there is such a variety here, you’re bound to find something quick, easy, and delicious.

3. The comfort level

If you regularly attend music festivals, you know that comfort is the key to an enjoyable experience. Part of the beauty of this festival (aside from the picturesque waterfront scenery that makes for a ton of Instagram-worthy photo ops) is the ample space that the grounds provide. The acts are spread out over two stages, and each area allows you the room to find the spot you're most comfortable in, without having to deal with an overwhelming sense of being stuck in a crowd. You can sit back on the ground for a broader perspective, or get up close and personal toward the stage. While there are literally thousands of people in attendance, no matter where you are, you’ll feel like that space was made just for you.

2. The vibe

It should go without saying that One Love Cali Reggae Fest comes with a certain kind of vibe. Everyone there is out to have a good time. Mellow moods and high spirits keep crowds smiling, dancing and just having fun. Making your way through the sea of people, almost has you feeling like you could catch a case of the “happies.” Since acts on the bill range from longtime favorites to up-and-coming artists, those in attendance span the spectrum as well. No matter what age you are, or which performer you came to see, overall, everyone there is genuinely delighted to be a part of a larger community.

1. The surprises

Expect the unexpected at One Love Cali Reggae Fest. This platform allows musicians to give their fans passionate performances that are full of heart. In the past, we’ve witnessed Jimmy Ovadia do live paintings of certain artists in the photo pit during the actual show, we watched Pepper drummer, Yesod Williams, sport a pretty fantastic emoji mask, and then there were songs where artists appeared to get lost in the moment; bringing down the house with spectacular sets that will forever be ingrained in the memories of the fans.

One Love Cali Reggae Fest is quickly becoming a mid-winter tradition for reggae music lovers in Southern California. The festival brings a little extra sunshine just when we need it most.
