“America’s Got Talent” returns with the season 13 premiere May 29 on NBC.  For the past two seasons, talented young ladies stole viewers hearts and walked away with the AGT title and $1 million grand prize. Singer-songwriter Grace VanderWaal won season 11 and season 12 ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer took home top honors. Both girls were 12-years-old when they won.

In the upcoming season, host Tyra Banks and judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel are slated to return. Who will dazzle or deliver death-defying acts? Who will inspire the audience and viewers or touch the judges with an emotional musical performance? More importantly, who will win a Golden Buzzer and ultimately be crowned the Season 13 “America’s Got Talent” winner?

A new crop of unknown artists and entertainers are waiting for their shot at stardom. Check out five reasons to watch season 13 of “America’s Got Talent” below.

Judging Panel Chemistry

There’s nothing quite like the unique brand of chemistry that AGT executive producer Simon Cowell and his pals Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Heidi Klum bring to the judging panel. While many people argue fatherhood has softened Cowell’s somewhat blunt critiques, we never know what the British music mogul is going to say and his judging cohorts are quick to correct or support his opinions as they deem fit. Plus, for a funny guy, Howie Mandel can be surprisingly endearing when he talks to contestants. Mel B and Heidi Klum are fashion savvy, and all four judges have proven their prowess repeatedly in discovering the next big star.

Variety Show Entertainment

A huge part of “America’s Got Talent’s” appeal is the variety of entertainers that audition. While many amazing singers have performed on the show, including season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal, season 12 singers Mandy Harvey and Angelica Hale, and more, AGT features all kinds of diverse entertainers. From magicians to clowns, to animal acts, dancers, aerialists and more, it’s equally fun and fascinating to watch so many different kinds of artists display all kinds of unique talent.

Inspirational Back Stories

“America’s Got Talent” continues to spotlight contenders who share heartwarming and inspirational backstories. Last season, singer Mandy Harvey sang from memory after losing her hearing due to a virus as a teen. Kechi suffered severe burns all over her body as the sole survivor of a plane crash. She entered AGT and sang to inspire other survivors to go for their dreams. Pint-sized vocal powerhouse Angelica Hale nearly died due to life-threatening complications from double-pneumonia at four-years-old. She went on to become AGT season 12 runner up and seeks to move and inspire others with her miraculous recovery story and her amazing vocal gifts.

In the upcoming season, the show has already leaked an audition video of a 14-year-old female rapper, Flau’jae who is taking a stand against gun violence, to honor her late father who killed by a gun before she was born. At the start of her original rap she declares, “If he would have put that gun down, then he would have been here right now …” (Watch her amazing performance in the video embedded above).

Celebrity Guest Judges

The season 13 guest judges for “America’s Got Talent” have not yet been announced. But, who is more qualified to critique unknown artists than people who have found great success in the entertainment industry? Superstars like One Direction member Louis Tomlinson, DJ Khaled, Reba McEntire and more have created some unforgettable moments when offering young hopefuls advice. It’ll be exciting to see who will guest star on the AGT judging panel this season!

Golden Buzzer Moments and Watching Dreams Come True

Magic and excitement ensue when one of the AGT judges smashes the Golden Buzzer and golden confetti rains down from the ceiling, effectively sending a contestant directly through to the public vote. Season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal’s ukulele-playing “I Don’t Know My Name” audition and Golden Buzzer moment is arguably one of the most memorable moments in series history. When asked by Simon Cowell if she thought she could win, the pint-sized musical wunderkind replied, “Miracles can happen. So, possibly.” The young New York native singer-songwriter went on to claim her miracle, win the title, and launch her rising music career. Last year, she won a prestigious Billboard Women in Music Rising Star Award and a Teen Choice Award for Choice Next Big Thing. This year, she’s touring with Imagine Dragons, including a stop at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on July 16. (Click here to purchase tickets from AXS).
