South Korean superstars NCT 127 hit the music landscape with their Billboard World Albums Chart Top 10 debut EP NCT #127 in 2016. The collection peaked at No. 2 on the chart, while topping the Gaon Chart in Korea.

A stream of EPs followed, along with three studio albums and a string of hit singles. In fact, Billboard dubbed the title track from their 2017 EP Cherry Bomb, as one of the best k-pop songs of that year. 2019 marks NCT 127’s first world tour and their enthusiastic NCTzen fanbase couldn’t be more pumped. The tour supports their 2019 Japanese album Awaken, which dropped on April 17 via SM Entertainment.

As the second sub-unit of the boyband NCT, the 10-member group has taken stolen the hearts of thousands of k-pop fans all over the world. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Johnny is NCT 127’s sole American in the group. The rest of the members are Taeil, Taeyong, Doyoung, Yuta, Jaehyun, Win Win, Jungwoo, Mark, and Haechan.

Collectively, the band has claimed several awards and award nominations being named Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10 winners at the 2018 Mnet Asian Music Awards. They also won the Bonsang award at the 2019 Seoul Music Awards, among many other honors.

Fans scream, cry, and cheer for NCT 127 wherever they go, including the U.S., even though their songs are largely sung in Korean. This speaks to music’s universal language, which breaks down the walls of cultural differences.

Whether you’re just getting to know the band or have followed their rise to fame since they hit the scene, we’ve compiled a list of 5 reasons we love NCT 127 below.

1. Their tightly-choreographed dance routines are captivating.

Simply put, the NCT 127 boys can dance! At times, ten bodies almost seem to meld into one and every move has a meaning and a well-expressed intent. Learning complex choreography is tough, but these guys make it look oh so easy. Their moves are smooth, perfectly-synchronized and utterly captivating.

2. They project fun chemistry and camaraderie.

It’s obvious in music videos and captured moments while they’re all together, that the NCT 127 gang likes each other and they like to have fun. A great example is when the guys announced their 2019 tour, Johnny picked “state representatives” and fitted each member with a sash, ala beauty pageant style. (Check out the video below).

3. They send a positive message in their songs.

Music touches people in different ways, no matter where you’re from or what language you speak. In “Simon Says” from the repackage of their Regular-Irregular album. In the video for this track, they’re casting off haters like theatrical masks and also clap back at their naysayers. The big message: We should all love ourselves the way we are.

4. Their music videos rock.

NCT 127’s music videos rock. They also provide a visual bridge to their international fan base and they’re just plain fun. Consider the “Cherry Bomb” video, for example. In it, the boys sing and dance while various vehicles zoom around them like four-wheelers, a flaming motorcycle, and a helicopter. Oh, and we can’t forget the animated cherries dropping from the sky – overall, it’s pretty sweet! In contrast, the dreamlike imagery featured in their “Wakey Wakey” video is stunning. (Check it out above).

5. They blend musical styles.

Yes, NCT 127 is a k-pop group. However, they push genre boundaries and blend elements of hip-hop, house, trance, rap, and even some R & B stylings into their songs. Overall, NCT 127 is refreshingly experimental in their sound and in its presentation. They might dress alike for some tight dance sequences. However, there is absolutely nothing cookie cutter about NCT 127 and that’s what makes them one of the hottest emerging groups on the current k-pop scene.
