With a lineup this year featuring some of the hottest acts, like Twenty One Pilots, Muse, and The Weeknd, it's hard to imagine ever running out of music to listen to at Firefly, However, for those wondering what else there is to do during their weekend-long adventure to The Woodlands, opportunities abound. Firefly has provided attendees with a variety of non-musical activities, and here is a rundown of the top five.
1. Grab a bite to eat
Gone are the days when music festival food was worse than that of your local carnival. Now, with food trucks all the rage, some of the best fast food from around the country is right at hand when you walk into the grounds at Firefly. Making a convoy up the east coast, some of the region's best food trucks will gather at The Woodlands to serve up a mixture ranging from tacos to barbecue, cheesesteaks to grilled cheese. Fans attending Firefly can take advantage of these offerings, trying an exotic new bite to eat while listening to their new favorite band.
2. Hang in a hammock
When standing by the stages all day wears you out, what would be more relaxing than taking a swing in a hammock in the shade? Firefly has got you covered, setting up The Nook, a lovely tree-lined area where concert goers can either bring their own hammock to string up or try out one of the many offerings provided by the festival. A little rest and recovery might be all you need for that final push before the headliners take the stage.
3. Go shopping
Everyone knows they can grab their favorite band's shirt, or some festival-emblem merch, at Firefly. Did you know you can also take care of your gift giving all the way until Christmas? Over 20 different arts and crafts vendors will be present at The Market this year, selling a variety of handmade wares that will appeal to everyone. Firefly even provides lockers throughout the festivals for those who don't want to get weighed down by all their shopping bags.
4. Grab a brew
For many, the festival experience is not complete without at least one beer. The Woodlands will be prepared this year, offering The Brewery, with on-site craft beer bars and offerings from Delaware native Dogfish Head Craft Beer. At The Brewery, you can grab a Firefly Ale, a pale ale specially brewed by Dogfish Head exclusively for the festival. Be sure to snap a picture for social media so all of your friends can look on with envy.
5. Play volleyball
This year, taking place in Firefly's North Hub, a series of volleyball tournaments are scheduled to take place. Whether you just want to watch your friends bite it in the sand, or actually hit the net yourself, there is an option for you. Spots to participate in the tournament sell out fast, so Firefly recommends registering ahead of time. You can sign up online as a team captain and put together 2-3 friends as a team, to join a friend's team as a player, or as a free agent if you don't have a team to join. In addition to volleyball, Firefly planners have arranged cornhole tournaments and a series of other fun activities.
