UK-based DJ-House artists and producers Leftwing : Kody charged out of the gate in 2012 earning some impressive accolades from Mixmag and DJ Mag, being labeled ones to watch and scoring a Best of British Awards Best Breakthrough DJ nomination in 2013 from DJ Mag.
Leftwing : Kody, whose real names are Jon Kong and Chris Adie, climbed the ranks quickly in the house and techno scene garnering support from the likes of Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, Solardo, Loco Dice, James Zabiela, Maya Jane Coles, Steve Lawler, Nick Fanciulli, Huxley and more. They’ve also earned residencies at renowned venues like Fabric in London, Sankeys in Ibiza and presented a monthly Rinse FM show.
Besides releasing their own acclaimed tracks on Hot Creations, VIVa, Truesoul, Mobilee and Knee Deep in Sound, the dynamic pair launched their own label, Lost Records, just a year after forming in 2013. As label founders, L & K keep their ears to the ground for fresh and exciting new sounds and showcase both emerging and established artists. Leftwing : Kody, above all, is driven by the desire to wow listeners and live crowds across the globe with their signature sound and sizzling remixes. Their first-ever North American tour kicked off Sept. 27 in Seattle, Washington. See more tour dates here.
We’ve put together a list of five things you may or may not know about Leftwing : Kody (with some help from Jon and Chris via email). Check it out below.
5. Jon is a practicing Buddhist
"Jon is a full, practicing Buddhist and has been teetotal for two years now – that’s always something that surprises people in the industry when you’re surrounded by booze at every show, but it just goes to show it is possible," says L & K.
4. Chris has an impressive MMA background
Per L& K, "Chris retired from an MMA career after breaking a rib but retired undefeated. He also wrote a book about how to tie shoelaces that remains unpublished to this day. Chris also likes to tell tall tales sometimes – if you can guess which two of those two facts are untrue, then he’ll give you one of his Ferraris."
3. Their “Milkshake” is better than yours …
"We just dropped a remix of Kelis’ famous “Milkshake” on Sony. It started off as a bootleg for the sets but then the label heard it and got Kelis in to re-sing the vocal. It’s now #10 on Beatport and still a bit surreal for us both," L & K report. Check it out here.
2. They released a new EP called Snap Back on Loco Dice’s Desolat label
Leftwing : Kody’s latest EP, Snap Back, dropped earlier this year via house and producing legend Loco Dice’s Desolat label. The three floor-savvy tracks are pulsing with loads of edgy, percussive energy. Listen to it here.
