Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Luke Combs has seen tremendous success recently in the country music sphere. This success includes three No.1 hits, as a result of his releases of “Hurricane,” “When It Rains It Pours,” and “One Number Away.” Along with such, Combs climbed the ranks with his full-length debut album, This One’s For You Too, as the 17-track release became gold-certified. While you may think you know most facts about Combs, here are five things you may not know about the country superstar.
In an interview with American Songwriter, Combs revealed that his songwriting process starts with the track’s title. “When I have an idea, I try to jot it down as a title and then I’ll take that into the co-write and say, ‘Hey man, what do you think about this? This is what I was thinking for it,” Combs said and continued, “It’s a little bit different every time. We don’t always use my ideas, obviously. You just try to write what people know and what they can relate to.
For Luke Combs, he does not just appreciate his personal success due to how its impacted his life. Rather, Combs remains grateful for how his musical accomplishments have helped those around him, who have consistently supported him in his artistic pursuits. In a recent interview with Forbes, Combs said, “it's really helped out everybody that works on my team tremendously. It's allowed us to expand our team and pay people more. I am really thankful for that aspect of it because it not only improves my life but the lives of 50 or 60 people, which is really awesome.”
When Combs wrote his tremendously successful song “Beautiful Crazy” about fiancée, the two were not even dating yet. The pair was at the point of spending a solid amount of time together, but Combs revealed to CMT that they were not even close to dating. At this point in time, Combs found himself “falling for her so hard” that he wrote “Beautiful Crazy,” and subsequently performed it for her. “To me, that was the moment when it changed,” Combs said and continued, “It wasn’t going to just be hanging out after that.”
In an interview with Taste of Country Nights, Combs had no problem promoting his admiration for actor Will Ferrell. “I’m a big Will Ferrell guy, I’ve always wanted to meet that guy,” Combs said and continued, “He’s like the funniest dude ever.” The only issue he encountered was selecting which of Ferrell’s films is his favorite one. Ranging from Ferrell’s classics like Old School to recent smashes like Step Brothers, Combs truly, unequivocally enjoys all of Ferrell’s comedic work.
When Combs achieved his second No. 1 hit, with “When It Rains It Pours,” the achievement actually occurred on the country singer’s birthday. Combs revealed how the milestone occurred simultaneously with his birthday throughout an interview with The Boot. “When It Rains It Pours” was not Combs’ first No. 1 single, as his debut single “Hurricane” had achieved such status in May 2017.
