Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are the only artists performing songs on the 2018 "A Star I Born" soundtrack, which has 17 original songs co-produced by Lady Gaga or Cooper, as well as one cover song by Lady Gaga. Cooper and Lady Gaga co-wrote most of the songs on the soundtrack, which Interscope Records will release on Oct. 5, the same day that Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film in theaters. As previously reported, "A Star Is Born," directed by Cooper, is having its world premiere Aug. 31 at the 2018 Venice International Film Festival in Italy. The movie is Cooper's directorial debut. He is also one of the movie's producers and screenwriters.

In the 2018 remake of "A Star Is Born," Cooper plays country singer Jackson "Jackie" Maine, while Lady Gaga plays pop/rock singer Ally. In the' first official trailer for the movie, the plot seems to follow closely with previous "A Star Is Born" movies, with the male lead character being a celebrity when he meets the female lead character, who is a struggling entertainer. During the course of their romance, the male lead character helps the female lead character with her career, and then she becomes also becomes famous, but their relationship is plagued by insecurities and addiction.

The movie's first trailer features Cooper's "Maybe It's Time" (written by Jason Isbell) and the Lady Gaga/Cooper duet "Shallow." All of the soundtrack's songs were performed live in the movie. The tracklist for the album is apparently in the sequence of when the songs are performed in the movie. Of the 18 songs performed on the soundtrack, Lady Gaga performs nine songs solo, Cooper performs five songs solo, and they have four duets. The only cover song on the album is Lady Gaga's remake of Edith Piaf's "La Vie en Rose," which Lady Gaga produced with Brian Newman. The soundtrack also includes dialogue as separate tracks. There are also two versions of the closing song "I'll Never Love Again": the film version and an extended version. The only original "A Star Is Born" song that Lady Gaga performed but did not write is "Diggin' My Grave," which was written by Paul Kennerley.

Lady Gaga's co-writers for her original "A Star Is Born" songs are Cooper, Natalie Hemby, Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando,  Andrew Wyatt, Mark Nilan Jr., Nick Monson, Paul “DJWS” Blair, Lukas Nelson and Aaron Raitiere. Nelson and Cooper co-wrote and co-produced most of the original songs performed by Cooper. Benjamin Rice co-wrote and co-produced tracks with both Cooper and Lady Gaga.

The Cooper-directed "A Star Is Born" is the fourth "A Star Is Born" movie. In the original 1937 "A Star Is Born" film, the couple was played by Fredric March and Janet Gaynor, who both portrayed actors in the movie. In the 1954 "A Star Is Born" film, James Mason played a fading movie star, while Judy Garland played a singer. In the 1976 "A Star Is Born" movie, Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand both played rock singers.

The cast of 2018's "A Star Is Born" also includes Sam Elliott, Dave Chappelle and Andrew Dice Clay, who plays Ally's father. Cooper is best known for his roles in "The Hangover" movies, "Silver Linings Playbook," "American Hustle" and "American Sniper." He earned Oscar nominations for his roles in the latter three movies. Lady Gaga starred in the 2017 Netflix documentary "Gaga: Five Foot Two," and won her first Golden Globe award for starring in FX's "American Horror Story: Hotel." She previously had small roles in the movies "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," "Muppets Most Wanted" and "Men in Black 3."

Lady Gaga's co-written song "Til It Happens to You" from the 2015 documentary "The Hunting Ground" received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. It seems inevitable that she and Cooper will also get awards recognition for "A Star Is Born."
