Adele's monumental 25 is continuing on with a fourth single from the set and second geared towards Adult Contemporary. "Water Under the Bridge" officially became the single to follow "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" on November 14 and is quickly climbing up the target charts. "Water" is eyeing the top 10 on the Adult Pop Songs chart, also known as Adult Top 40 and is strictly airplay.
"Water Under the Bridge" cracked the top 20 in the previous tracking week moving from No. 25 up to No. 17. The chart puts focus on listeners over the age of 25 and are typically songs that will last much longer than pop contemporaries. The latest single from the certified Diamond album shoots up another three spots to No. 14 and is likely to reach heights on the chart over the next immediate weeks.
Adele has already had two songs reach the top of Adult Pop songs from 25. Previous single "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" became her fifth leader on the chart in August as the indie styled song reached its new peaks across several charts including a peak of No. 8 on the Hot 100. It also reached No. 1 on Pop Songs (Mainstream Top 40) along with Adult Contemporary. It's currently at No. 10 on Adult Pop, dropping two spots while "Water Under the Bridge" rises to take its place.
With "Water Under the Bridge" aimed towards the Adult charts, its subtle R&B rhythmic phrases could make it a contender for a top slot on the Dance Club Songs tally much like the previous ballad "When We Were Young." 25's lead single "Hello" topped nearly every chart that it could worldwide and was such a success with remixes that it became her first No. 1 on Dance Club Songs. It's still fairly early for the song reach one of the fifty spots on the chart among already established songs played and reported in remix form until more are available with the single's youth.
As always, AXS will report on notable chartings as they happen. Airplay tracking runs Monday through Sunday.
