British rockers Alt-J will bring their experimental style of sound and energy to Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, N.Y. this summer, with a co-headlining show alongside west coast jazz wizard Kamasi Washington on Friday, June 15. It will be Alt-J’s first performance in New York City since their appearance at day two of Panorama Music Festival this past July.
Announced on Monday, the upcoming concert will apparently feature a customized sound rigging, capable of “enveloping the entire audience,” according to the venue’s post on their social media outlets.
“The speakers will be used throughout the show to position sound effects mixed into a variety of the band’s material, thus creating an immersive sound experience,” the picturesque outdoor venue shared in a statement, which can be read below. What’s also unique about the upcoming June concert, is attendees will be able to move freely throughout different levels of the venue during the two sets - both on the venue’s floor area and surrounding bowl seating - so that fans can take in all the different audio and visual experiences of the performance from every angle. By treating the entire venue as a general admission seating/dancing area, it certainly opens the musical door for fans to have a real sense of communal freedom to enjoy the concert. Well done Forest Hills!
The upcoming show is the third concert announced for the upcoming Forest Hills summer season so far. Belle and Sebastian are teaming up with indie favorites Perfume Geniusand Frankie Cosmos for a show at the venue on June 8, with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and The Head and The Heart scheduled to play the following evening on June 9.
Tickets to see Alt-J and Kamasi Washington will be going on sale to the public starting this Friday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. EST, and can be purchased by clicking here.
