Following the announcement of their collaborative album together, I Can Spin a Rainbow, Amanda Palmer and Edward Ka-Spel--of the Legendary Pink Dots--have released the first video from the album, giving fans a preview of things to come--including more promised videos.
The video for the song "Beyond the Beach," which features an animated puppet, was done by Chiara Ambrosio, who has previously worked with Palmer on videos for her album with her father and side project Evelyn Evelyn. "Beyond the Beach" is also available as a download with pre-orders of I Can Spin a Rainbow.
“Beyond The Beach”--together with the other tracks on this majestic album--is a powerful, melancholy and enchanting evocation of life at its most fragile and beautiful," Ambrosio said. "When I first listened to it, it stirred some strong, visceral and contradictory sensations in me: the dichotomy of danger/shelter, departures/arrivals, longing/belonging, familiar/estranged…overall a sense of a reversed birth, somehow an attempt to go back to a moment of grace, of purity and hope--a search for home in a world eternally shifting and eluding our grasp. In many ways it chimed deeply with all that is happening in the world at this very moment: so much sadness, loss, displacement, despair…but in the midst of it all, those small beacons of grace, light and kindness that keep pointing the way towards redemption."
More videos will be released leading up to the album's release.
Palmer and Ka-Spel will also play a limited run of shows with violinist Patrick Q Wright, also of the Legendary Pink Dots.
I Can Spin a Rainbow will be released May 5. It is available for pre-order now and will be released on CD and double-gatefold vinyl, plus a special 7" vinyl only for backers of Palmer's Patreon. Patrons will also get a first chance at show tickets and pre-orders. In addition to "Beyond the Beach," all pre-orders include a download of "Rainbow's End," plus a link to the full album on release day.
