Atmosphere may proudly and faithfully rep for their hometown of Minneapolis, but Colorado is something of their second home. Case in point: Slug and Atmosphere are the only hip-hop outfit to book Red Rocks Amphitheatre on an annual basis.
The duo will return to Colorado's outdoor wonder on Friday, August 31. Tickets for the show are now available and it typically sells out, so follow this link to grab yours before they're gone.
Over their nearly 30-year career, Atmosphere has helped define the sound and ethos of underground hip-hop. Building a regional then national fanbase will little traditional industry support, Atmosphere (rapper Slug and producer Ant) created a blueprint for other artists looking to sidestep the major label game in favor of a DIY hustle. Their label, Rhymesayers Entertainment, remains one of the most consistent sources of idiosyncratic talent and beginning in 2008, they launched the wildly successful Soundset Music Festival, which celebrates hip-hop culture without regard to popularity or status (this year's lineup includes everyone from current favorites Migos and Logic to classic artists like Wu-Tang, Ice-T and Hieroglyphics).
So there's lots for Atmosphere to celebrate at Red Rocks, whether or not they drop a new album before the show (their last release was 2016's Fishing Blues). Get your tickets to the show here and watch them perform at last year's Soundset in the video above.
