Elvis Presley fans can gear up for a fantastic AXS TV lineup featuring some of this most classic films and concerts, all month long on Tuesdays in August. No other artist in history arguably had the biggest impact on the face of rock music. The late, great singer ignited a global fan frenzy with his boyish good-looks and his scream-inducing stage moves. AXS TV’s “All Hail the King” programming celebration kicks off on Tuesday, Aug. 1 with the riveting 1970 documentary “Elvis: That’s the Way It Is” at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT. Here’s a look at the complete lineup.
“Elvis: That’s The Way It Is” takes a fascinating look at Elvis’ return to the stage after completing a run of successful musical feature films. Set in Las Vegas, fans can get an intimate look at rehearsals and his live show in which he performs a crop of huge hits including “All Shook Up” and “Don’t Be Cruel.” Legends like Sammy Davis, Jr., Cary Grant and Charo are seen arriving and fans also offer up neat commentary on what he means to them.
On Aug. 8, Andrew Solt and Malcolm Leo profile key moments in Elvis’ career with reenactments of various events in “This Is Elvis.” Pop artist Ral Donner narrates the 1981 by impersonating Elvis’ voice. The re-telling of his life via acting impersonators gives the whole film an intriguing and unique vibe. It airs at 10 p.m. ET.
The 2016 AXS TV original film” Elvis Lives!” is up next on Aug. 15 at 10 p.m. ET. Fans and critics alike have speculated whether Elvis really died, or if he simply dropped out of the public eye and went into hiding for some reason. “Elvis Lives!” stars Jonathan Nathan as Elvis and presents an “alternate reality” in which The King of Rock and Roll goes undercover to take down a crime syndicate and protect his family. Conspiracy theorists everywhere can appreciate the spin this inventive film puts on Elvis’ story.
It seems hard to believe it’s been 40 years since Elvis died. To commemorate the anniversary, AXS TV will air a special back-to-back block on Aug. 16 which starts with an Elvis-themed episode of “Classic Albums” at 9 p.m. ET. The acclaimed series will give fans an in-depth look the “Suspicious Minds” singer’s eponymous debut album, along with rare moments in his early days and his meteoric rise to fame. An “Elvis Lives!” encore follows at 10 p.m. ET.
On Aug. 22, Oscar-winning film director Martin Scorsese leads viewers through a fast-paced live tour extravaganza in which Elvis and his loyal team play 15 cities in 15 days in the Golden Globe-winning 2010 concert film, “Elvis on Tour.” The movie spans the Mississippi native singer’s life and career by exploring his early days, acting credits and live music show sets through the years. The 1972 documentary was released by MGM and is the final film Elvis starred in before he died.
Finally, AXS TV’s Elvis Presley month-long Tuesday marathon draws to a close on Aug. 29 with the 1967 musical-comedy feature film “Clambake." In it, Elvis stars as a young millionaire named Scott Heyward who trades places with a ski-instructor in order to find true love. The classic flick also stars Bill Bixby, Shelley Fabares, Lee Majors, Teri Garr and Corbin Bernsen. Elvis sure looks sweet behind the wheel of the bright red 1959 Corvette Stingray Racer his character drives on his quest for love. You'll want to pop some popcorn and settle in at 10 p.m. ET to see if Elvis as Scott succeeds.
