AXS TV renews 'Rock & Roll Road Trip' for third season, books iconic guests
AXS TV Promos

Earlier today, AXS TV confirmed its dynamic original series “Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar” presented by Mercury Insurance has been renewed for a third season, slated to air in early 2018. A press release announced production is already underway on the new 12-episode season and an exciting roster of legendary guest stars has already begun being filled.

Season two recently closed with Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine. The Red Rocker will return to the road to interview and jam with some iconic musical peers including Dave Grohl, Roger Daltrey, Sarah McLachlan, Pat Benatar, Bob Weir and more. There’s nothing quite like the intimate glimpse Sammy Hagar gives of some of music’s biggest superstars. Hagar clearly enjoys his rare time with his famous guests – many of who are his close friends.

"It’s been a cool surprise how much we’re all enjoying the interview part of this show because as artists what happens on stage or in the music studio is the easy/fun stuff and the interviews often feel like the work,” remarked Sammy Hagar in a press statement. “It’s like when the camera lights go on and the questions start, that typical wall or guard is down because it’s me on the other end and not a seasoned journalist asking the questions.  So, the flow is organic and its easy – to the point where we’re both surprised how deep and real the conversations get – we’re definitely forgetting the camera is even there and I think that’s really connecting with the viewers, too.”

In this manner, “Rock & Roll Road Trip” sets itself apart from documentary-style news shows or short-sit-downs between an artist and a seasoned news or entertainment anchor. Hagar relates to the people he chats with from an industry-level. They do the same job and they understand the ups-and-downs of life on the road, on the stage and in the spotlight. Therefore, Hagar presents a different side to these artists than they reveal in other media forums.

Take the Red Rocker’s recent cruise with Adam Levine in his Ferrari, for the “Rock & Roll Road Trip” season two finale, for example. No one else has invited the public viewing audience and the “Sexiest Man Alive’s” personal space like that.

“Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar” is the perfect fit for our TV audience, giving them unprecedented access into the lives of some of today’s top musicians,” said Evan Haiman, AXS TV’s Vice President of Programming and Development in the statement. “The series has continued to gain new viewers with each of its prior two seasons, and we look forward to building on that success with the incredible crop of high-caliber talent that we have lined up for season three.”

On top of great, candid interviews, fans can witness rare, epic jam sessions between Hagar and his guests. He and Levine rocked with Richie Sambora. He also rocked with his Chickenfoot pals Joe Satriani and Chad Smith this past season. The list of amazing musical moments is long and will grow in the upcoming season.

“Rock & Roll Road Trip” season three will kick off in 2018. Stay tuned to AXS for news, updates and ongoing coverage of “Rock & Roll Road Trip” and more AXS TV original series. Find AXS TV on your TV.
