AXS TV’s original series “Paul Shaffer Plus One” returns on Sunday, Oct. 6 with guest star Billy Gibbons at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

In a sneak peek clip of the episode, the iconic ZZ Top frontman and guitarist discusses what influenced his signature sound with Grammy-winning artist and series host Paul Shaffer.

He says,  “It would be fair to say that from the [Moving] Sidewalks standpoint all of us had come up with this Texas background,” said Gibbons, “and so much of it was this combination of country and western, but hardcore blues and R&B. There was no way around it. You got it.”

“I don’t know if there’s any exponent of Texana, but there is a thread that weaves it all together. My good friend Jimmie Vaughan, he and I have talked about it for hours and days on end. It may go back to the time when there was nothing else to do but sit on the porch and play a guitar. And with that much time on your hands, you got good.”

Gibbons and ZZ Top are a quintessential blues rock band. Hailing from Houston, Texas, the band has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. They were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

The legendary rockers have released a stream of smash hits that resonate with fans across multiple generations. Songs like “Legs,” “Cheap Sunglasses,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’” remain fan favorites.

After decades of global acclaim in the music industry, Gibbons has a lot to talk about.

With his own massive entertainment background, Paul Shaffer makes the perfect interviewer —he knows exactly what kinds of questions to ask his guests. Plus, his easygoing approach makes the interview seem like a candid conversation.

Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen guests on the show next Sunday, Oct. 13.
