AXS TV will have same-day coverage of Wrestle Kingdom 13 from the Tokyo Dome on Jan. 4, 2019. This will be the first time ever that AXS TV will have same day coverage of New Japan Pro Wrestling. The broadcast will start at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT. Wrestle Kingdom is considered one of the biggest wrestling competitions in the entire year and has been compared to the Super Bowl, in terms of its overall significance to the Japanese people and culture.
The biggest event of Wrestle Kingdom 13 will be the International Wrestling Grand Prix Heavyweight championship between Kenny Omega of Canada and Hiroshi Tanahashi of Japan. Omega will be trying to defend his championship, while Tanahashi is a seven-time IWGP heavyweight champion and is the reigning G1 Climax champion.
Other interesting matches on the card include Chris Jericho of Canada against Tetsuya Naito of Japan for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship, Yujiro Kushida of Japan against Taiji Ishimori of Japan for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship and Tomohiro Ishii of Japan against Zack Sabre Jr. of Great Britain for the British Heavyweight Championship.
The AXS broadcast of the event will feature commentators Kevin Kelly and Don Callis. Kelly has been a commentator for professional wrestling since 1991 and Callis has been the co-executive vice president of Impact Wrestling since 2017.
