The Backstreet Boys are the latest pop act to take up residence in Las Vegas. The boy band will begin their "Larger Than Life" residency at Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino on Wednesday, March 1 and you can watch a preview of what's in store by using the media player included with this article.
"Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life" will consist of 26 concerts over the next five months. The group is bullish on taking full advantage of Las Vegas to make those shows as massive as possible. “It’s important for all five of us to make sure we create a once in a lifetime experience for our fans," Nick Carter said in a press release issued Friday. “We plan to take them on a journey of our 20-plus years of making music with all of the bells and whistles Vegas has to offer. Night after night, we’ll definitely be having just as much fun as our fans."
The residency will be housed in Planet Hollywood's theater The AXIS, meaning that the Backstreet Boys will be sharing concert space with fellow pop headliners Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez. Spears was the first to move in with her "Piece of Me" residency, and is scheduled to perform during BSB's run on March 24, 25, 29 and 31. Lopez, however, won't be back with her "All I Have" residency until October, possibly due to her responsibilities starring in NBC's crime drama "Shades of Blue" (which starts its second season March 5) and as a judge on the upcoming reality show "World of Dance."
Bringing in the Backstreet Boys keeps The AXIS occupied while Spears and Lopez are away, and gives the stars a venue that's obviously well prepared to host a major pop act. While Friday's press release didn't give any specific details on what exactly "Larger Than Life" has planned or which songs will be on the set list it certainly sounds as if the quintet are particularly excited for this run of shows. And considering that they've performed on cruise ships and on a worldwide joint tour with New Kids on the Block they know what big shows are made of.
Tickets for "Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life" at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino are on sale now here. Prices range from $42.51 to $190.75. In addition to the standard tickets, the band is offering VIP packages as well as meet and greet packages through their website. Since this is their first ever Las Vegas residency and only for a limited number of shows, fans interested in attending should get tickets as soon as possible. And if this run sells well, perhaps the Backstreet Boys will become the third pop act to take up regular space in Las Vegas.
