Undefeated Brazilian sensation Barbara Acioly (4-0) wowwed the crowd July 14 at the Invicta FC 24 weigh-in at Kansas City's Sheraton Suites, appearing in an elegant white dress before revealing her fight attire. It was one of the more memorable moments in recent Invicta FC weigh-in history.
The 24-year-old, who fights Mexico's Karina Rodriguez, earned one of the biggest crowd reactions of the night despite being relatively unknown in the United States. Acioly, a veteran of such promotions as Titan FC and GKO, will be making her Invicta Fighting Championships debut on July 15 at the Scottish Rite in Kansas City, Mo.
She's taking on one of Mexico's top young prospects, a woman who has competed against the likes of Alexa Grasso. Rodriguez, a fellow Invicta FC newcomer, holds a 4-2 record as a professional. Both women were on the mark for their hotly-anticipated flyweight affair, as Rodriguez weighed in at 124.1 pounds and Acioly tipped the scales at 125.9.
Whoever wins their fight will undoubtedly jump onto the radar of the UFC's matchmaking team, as the promotion recently added a female flyweight division. Invicta FC is actively working to develop top talent to challenge whoever performs well on the upcoming season of the "TUF" reality show, a season that will feature a plethora of female 125-pound athletes.
The seven-fight Invicta FC 24 card, headlined with a flyweight bout between Milana Dudieva and Mara Romero Borella, should play a part in showcasing which rising flyweight stars are worthy of an opportunity to fight inside the world-famous Octagon. Invicta FC 24 airs live on UFC Fight Pass. Rodriguez vs. Acioly is slated to be featured on the main portion of the bill.
