American Olympic gold medalist Tianna Bartoletta of Elyria, Ohio won a gold medal on Thursday in a women's long jump Diamond League event in Oslo, Norway. Bartoletta had a winning jump of 6.79 metres to win the gold medal.
Bartoletta was 0.04 metres ahead of silver medalist Darya Klishina. An authorized neutral athlete from Russia, Klishina had a jump of 6.75 metres. Claudia Rath of Germany won the bronze medal with a jump of 6.63 metres. Bartoletta reached the medal podium by 0.26 metres. Shara Proctor of Great Britain finished in fourth place with a jump of 6.53 metres.
Bartoletta is a three-time Olympic gold medalist. She won the gold medal in the women's 4x100 metre relay at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She also won the gold medal in the women's long jump at the last Olympic Games as well. The gold medal in Oslo will give Bartoletta confidence as she prepares for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
There was a second North American athlete to win a gold medal in Oslo on Thursday. Andre De Grasse of Scarborough, Ontario won the gold medal in the men's 100 metres. De Grasse placed first despite a slow time of 10.01 seconds.
