The locations and dates for the 2018-19 Beach Roadtrip Weekend festivals have been announced. The festivals celebrate the best in Caribbean music and culture, and to ensure that the music is top notch, Beach Roadtrip Weekend has partnered with VP Records, a leading proponent of reggae and soca music. VP has a roster that includes Caribbean music stars like Christopher Martin, Queen Ifrica, Romain Virgo and Raging Fyah.
The exact venues for the 2018-19 Beach Roadtrip Weekend events have not yet been named, but the festivals always takes place at an all-inclusive resort, so music lovers can enjoy all the food and drink they want during the weekend-long day parties and concerts without incurring additional costs. Festivals will take place throughout the U.S. and also in Caribbean locations, and the first Beach Roadtrip Weekend will take place in the spring (see details below.)
In conjunction with VP Records partnering with Beach Roadtrip Weekend, the label has released two new volumes of their Strictly the Best compilation series; many of the artists spotlighted on the collections are likely to also perform at one or more of the festivals. Strictly the Best Vol. 56 features roots reggae jams and “lover’s rock” cuts like Christopher Martin’s smooth reggae groove “Better than the Stars,” Richie Spice’s shout-out to the girls, weed, scenery and assorted fun to be found in “California” and Droop Lion’s reggae reimagining of the Creedence Clearwater Revival chestnut “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” Junior Kelly, Spiritual, Jah-Lil and Raging Fyah with Cidade Negra are among the set’s other contributors.
Strictly the Best Vol. 57 showcases VP’s roster of dancehall artists and includes cuts from Ghanaian performer Stonebwoy, DJ Spooky, Dexta Daps, Masicka and current dancehall darling Shenseea who represents with her cuts “Time Up” and “Movie,” a DJ Septik remix of her hit “Loodi” that also features Vybz Kartel. Another collaboration on Vol 57 is “Skank and Rave” by Beenie Man, Voicemail and Ding Dong. Between them, the two new Strictly the Best volumes offer fans 28 songs to tide them over until the Beach Roadtrip Weekend brings the live music.
