Benjamin Booker is on the road showcasing material from his recently released sophomore studio long-player, Witness. The politically aware album, which emerged back on June 2 via ATO Records and Rough Trade Records, includes a collaboration with singer-songwriter and civil rights activist Mavis Staples on the track “Witness.”
Booker burst onto the scene three years ago with the release of his critically acclaimed self-titled debut, which was recorded with producer Andrija Tokic, who has previously worked with Hurray for the Riff Raff and Alabama Shakes. The album, which was supported by lead single “Violent Shiver,” landed at No. 46 on the Billboard 200 following its August 2014 release.
She Keeps Bees, a bluesy indie rock and roll duo, will open Sunday evening’s concert. The Brooklyn-based two-piece released their most recent and fourth full-length, Eight Houses, back in September 2014 via Future Gods and BB Island. Recorded with producer Nicolas Vernhes, who previously worked with The War On Drugs and Deerhunter, the album is anchored by lead single “Is What It Is.”
The duo, which is currently working on their fifth LP, released a new single, “Our Bodies” / “Head Of Steak,” earlier this summer.
Tickets ($22 in advance, $25 day of show) are available at AXS.com. Doors open at 8 p.m. for the 18 & over event. Music Hall of Williamsburg is located at 66 North 6th Street in Brooklyn, New York.
