Mardi Gras will be celebrated around the world the weekend of Feb. 25-26 and on Feb. 28's Fat Tuesday. New Orleans hosts the most famous Mardi Gras party in the U.S., but people the folks of Chicago will bring their own twist with special priced admissions and Cajun-influenced menus at restaurants. There will be also be family-friendly events in Chicago at Navy Pier, Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum for the special weekend. Neighborhoods of the World: Celebrate Brazil’s Carnival

In partnership with Chicago Samba, Navy Pier will present Brazil’s Carnival as part of the Neighborhoods of the World. The series will celebrate the rich tapestry of the diverse communities in Chicago. This small festival will feature live folk music, traditional dance, face painting, crafts, and cuisine. Chicago Samba is a music ensemble that offers authentic Brazilian music with the flavor of Carnival. The seven-week series will also present celebrations of Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, and Greece in future weeks.

Mars-di-Gras will be free with paid admission to the Adler Planetarium. Dust off your imagination to take a trip to the Red Planet and masquerade as the first Martians. What would it be like to live, work and play on Mars? The Adler super krewe will offer a Mar-di-Gras extravaganza that promises to be fun and educational. Adler will bring the beads, band, and science to their carnival of activities that combine space exploration and Mardi Gras. The Martian Masquerade will ask what a Martian in a disguise might look like. Guests will be able to design and wear a Martian mask to wear in the Mars-di Gras parade.
