Björk is a lifetime member of the avant-garde. Her visionary brilliance is simply unequaled. She has pushed the boundaries of pop culture beyond what most artists can even imagine. Her fantastic synthesis of poetry and technology has created a world where imagination is king and the impossible has already happened.

Last week, her interactive VR film, "Family," which was commissioned by Phoebe Greenberg and Penny Mancuso of Montréal's Phi Centre and Red Bull Music Academy, made its world premiere. In collaboration with filmmaker Andrew Thomas Huang, Björk has employed a masterful alchemy to create this astounding work of art that serves as the centerpiece of her album Vulnicura (2015).

In a press announcement released today, Huang explained, "The story of the piece is about a woman who journeyed to see the Icelandic landscape to sew herself back together through, out of heartbreak, towards transcendence and empowerment. All the landscapes that you see in the piece are actual landscape scans of the sets that we shot in 'Black Lake.' They're meaningful scans, they're not just any Icelandic environments... You'll be traveling inside an embroidered piece designed by James Merry that's kind of like your magic carpet taking you through the world. We got actual motion-capture of Björk, so her presence is there in the piece."

The entire work, Björk Digital, is on display from October 15 to November 12, 2016, at Montreal's DHC/ART Foundation for Contemporary Art. The exhibit combines  virtual reality with digital and moving image works that were created by Björk. This revolutionary experience is being described as "a window into the mind of one of today's most interesting creators."
