Danny Garcia returns to action Feb. 17 at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Events, as he meets rising star and former world champion Brandon Rios in a marquee 147-pound grudge match. Tickets can be picked up right here on AXS. In honor of this blockbuster event, here's a look at five things you didn't know about Garcia:
1) He has been training since age 10
At just 29 years old, Garcia is already a wily veteran, with over a decade of experience fighting world-class competition. According to Premier Boxing Champions, the Philadelphia native has been training since the tender age of 10.
2) Garcia's controversial father is also his trainer
The hard-hitting star comes from a family of fighters, as his father is boxing legend Angel Garcia. Danny's dad is also his trainer. Angel Garcia is notorious in the boxing community for stirring feathers, as he's constantly in the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons. In one of his most jarring moments, Angel nearly started a riot after unleashing an ugly stream of profanities at his son's opponent at the time, Keith Thurman.
3) He fought over 100 times as an amateur
Garcia took his sweet time turning pro. The Pennsylvania sensation amassed a ridiculous amateur record of 107-13 before joining the professional ranks.
4) His nickname is "Swift" -- for good reason
Garcia has one of the best finishing rates in the business. In his 34 starts, he has scored 19 wins by way of knockout.
5) He's a former two-time world champ
Garcia is no stranger to winning championships. A former WBC welterweight title holder, the 29-year-old also won The Ring light welterweight championship and other belts.
