BTS 'Love Yourself: Tear' debuts at No. 1 on albums chart

Korean boy band BTS has been becoming increasingly popular over the last two years and their latest album Love Yourself: Tear is proving just that. The set is debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart which will refresh on May 30 due to Memorial Day. Here are the numbers for the latest No. 1 album on the charts.

Love Yourself: Tear is the band's first chart-topper after steadily building momentum since 2016. The mostly Korean language set opens with 135,000 total overall units, which combines sales, streams and track purchases. Of that number, 100,000 derived from pure album sales which also places it at No. 1 on Top Album Sales for the tracking week. Love had a notable amount of streaming units, 26,000, which equals just a little over 39 million song listens on various recognized platforms.

The new No. 1 album for the band was released just two days before the 2018 Billboard Music Awards aired on May 20 on NBC where they performed a high energy set. Host Kelly Clarkson introduced the band with giant pink fluffy earmuffs as the younger crowd burst into roaring cheers. That night, BTS also took home the Top Social Award, an award for the Social 50 chart which uses interactions via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr and Wikipedia.

Love follows 2017's Love Yourself: Her which debuted at No. 7 with 31,000 total units with 18,000 being in album sales. The band's 2016 album Wings peaked at No. 26 on the Top 200 and upon debut, BTS hit No. 1 on the Social 50.
