BTS can add another accolade to their long line of impressive achievements. The globally-adored South Korean boy band has broken their own record by earning the biggest music video debut in YouTube history for their latest video “Idol,” Billboard reports.
The “Idol” video overtook Taylor Swift’s 24-Hour view total of 43.2 million for “Look What You Made Me Do,” earned last year by garnering more than 45 million views in its first 24 hours of release, according to a YouTube spokesperson. As of the time of this writing (Aug. 28 at approximately 10:30 a.m. ET), “Idol” is No. 40 on trending on the video site and has amassed more than 93 million views since it was posted on Aug. 24.
BTS clipped their own previous 24-hour debut record held by their video for “Fake Love,” which dropped in May and raked in 35.9 million views in its first day. The “Idol” video made its debut after the band piqued curiosity with a Korean culture-infused teaser clip. BTS’ new record also comes after a previous announcement they dethroned Harry Styles with a new Twitter engagement record, for which they scored one of two Guinness World Records.
BTS’ loyal Army fan base continues to shower the Billboard chart-topping group with love in the wake of the highly-anticipated release of their newest album, Love Yourself: Answer, which also dropped on Aug. 24. “Idol” is the album’s lead single and an alternate version of the song which is featured on the digital album and features rumored-then-confirmed guest artist Nicki Minaj.
